A Night at the Oscars

All photographers have specialties or favourite things they like to shoot. For me it has always been about one on one interactions and intimate portraits, but recently I stepped out of my comfort zone to photograph an event as part of an assignment for college. I had shot a large corporate event with a few classmates in the past but this time I was flying solo. I had the wonderful opportunity to capture all the fun moments at this year’s University of Ottawa Faculty of Education Student’s Association Formal.

This year the event was Oscar themed, complete with production slates and a red carpet. I was tasked with photographing guests on the red carpet and getting some candid shots of people interacting around the venue. Shooting an event like this can be intimidating and daunting but I had a blast. These future educators know how to have a good time!

The biggest challenge I faced was my time limitations which meant I needed to make sure I was getting a good variety of shots (and a lot of them) while still making sure they were beautiful high quality images. Doing events like this can take some practice, but by the end of the night I rocked it.

If you are having an event, big or small, I would love to work with you to capture all the fun moments and make you and your guests look like a million bucks. Connect with me here!
